Run Culture S24 Vol 3

Taking Flight

This week is packed with excitement, and I had a hard time narrowing it down for you. From the Nike Blueprint colourway to the Puma Deviate Nitro 3 and Mizuno Neo Vista, the upcoming shoe drops are making my wallet nervous. Too many shoe releases might not be great for the back pocket, but it's fantastic for consumers with so many options to choose from!

I ventured into Reddit to share our newsletter and was pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome and new subscribers. Keep that feedback coming – it helps me tailor this newsletter just for you.

After battling the flu, my training is finally back on track. With 14 weeks to go until the Sydney Marathon, I’m diving into the 2Q Marathon Program from Jack Daniels Running Formula. Curious about it? Check out my supplementary newsletter as I journal my journey and insights.

The Shop Front

Blueprint Colorway

The most important part of a shoe is its performance and ability to complete the task at hand. The second most important thing is the looks and colorway. I still stand by "look good, feel good, run good." After seeing the prototype colourway fly off the shelves, I’ve been waiting for the perfect version of the Alphafly 3 to drop, and it has happened. Just enough colour to pop while understated enough to not blind you.

Bandit

Most of you have probably heard of Bandit and for good reason. They take everything they do to the next level including their marketing, clothing quality and brand identity. Bandit just screams style and quintessential New York. One other thing I love about Bandit is that they put a lot of focus on creating high quality female products targeted at high performance which cant be said for a lot of other brands.

They just dropped their latest collection “Summer 2024” and the whole look book is incredible and shot on film by Joe Greer. Anyone that knows me personally knows my love of film photography and Bandit nailed it.

The Cafe

North South

North South came out of nowhere and blew us away. The best way I can describe them is if the "Drive to Survive" crew started covering your local 10k (with a little less drama). Their production quality rivals Netflix-style documentaries as they follow lesser-known Australian athletes on the road circuit. Now, we just need the Olympic committee, World Athletics, and the Marathon Majors to hire these guys to put athletics on the global sports map.

The Gym

Run Faster: From 5k To the Marathon

Brad Hudson's and Matt Fitzgerald's training methodology is adaptive and dependent purely on the individual the training program is created for. While many famous training programs are quite rigid and lay out exact workouts day by day, Hudson’s methodology is the complete opposite. The core principle is steady progressive overload with gradually increasing load, intensity, and duration to enhance fitness.

Training Phases:

  1. Base Building: Large emphasis on aerobic capacity and building endurance and strength.

  2. Race Phase: Start introducing race-specific workouts.

  3. Recovery Phase: Focus on rest and getting ready for the next base-building stage.

If you're afraid of hills, look away because Hudson loves short hill sprints to build speed while not overloading the body too much.

Well, that wraps it up – another newsletter out to the public. I’m really enjoying this process and using it as an excuse to read, learn, and discover as much as I can about running and share this with whoever will listen. My goal is to start contacting some running coaches, PTs, and brands to do some mini-interviews and create some original content on top of curation.

Don’t forget to subscribe to this newsletter and follow the Instagram to support what we are doing. While you're at it, leave a comment on what you would like to read about or learn about.
